What is a citizen developer? [VIDEO]

According to Gartner, a citizen developer is “a user who creates new business applications for consumption by others using development and runtime environments sanctioned by corporate IT.”

How do you become a “citizen developer”?

See a business problem and create the software solution.

What kind of problems are we talking about here?

How exactly does a citizen developer fix these problems?
By identifying existing data to support new software and apps, the citizen developer lays the framework to build the solution. However, it’s not always a one-man job. The citizen developer works with IT to make sure the app is compliant, secure, user friendly, and acceptable for use.

Citizen Developer Fun Facts and Figures:
    • The largest percentage of citizen developers are between the ages of 18 and 29.
    • 63% of citizen developers find solutions without engaging IT.
    • Citizen developers prefer to communicate in person (59%) followed by email, text, and chat (36%) and lastly, by telephone (5%)
